Playing and Learning

January 25th, 2016

One of the places I take Ian during the day is Pretend City. Whether the weather is cold or sunny (like today), it’s where he can run around and explore without my worrying that he will fall or get hurt. It is truly a kind of “children’s paradise.” Well worth the annual pass.

Since we had a busy weekend, I decided to relax and let Ian play by himself. In this particular area with foam structures, I watched him as he played and climbed and explored the shapes. He was actually more fascinated with the balls that some kids brought in from earlier. There was a worker there who took a liking to him and played with him for a good while. I watched as he interacted with this adult. I saw my son from a different light all of a sudden. He was animated, so willing to learn, and delightedly amused by what she was showing him. I had this hidden feeling of shame for not doing it myself.

I watched some more as he played with the balls, watched him interact with the other kids. I watched his reactions and response to other kids who grabbed the balls from him. He has such a good temperament. He was content to simply play and learn and collect and build. I am so proud of my son. From today, I learned to play more closely with him next time, to not be afraid to have a more intimate encounter with his budding personality

Busy Sunday

January 24th, 2016

It was such a busy day today, starting with praying fervently for God’s blessing on the Sunday sermon as well as a missionary sharing. He answered our prayers by opening people’s hearts to the message of His glory as reflected on creation. Praise Him! We shared in this joy by listening to feedback and watching how people responded to spiritual feeding. There was a sense of being uplifted by the truth of God’s word. We’re certainly privileged to share in this joy!

After lunch, we were invited to someone’s house for more fellowship. It was a new house overlooking all of OC. It was a beautiful house with the smell of new paint and furniture still hanging in the air. More importantly, the fellowship was encouraging and the bonding was palpable. This was the remembrance of our time together.

Later that night, we had to drive one hour to catch up to my cousin Matt and Tracy’s daughter’s baptism. It was another quality time with family. There were four tables in all. Even though we were late, we were glad to have made the effort. The food was excellent and it was always good to see everyone again!

Housecleaning

January 23rd, 2016

It has been hanging over my head for several days now, possibly since the beginning of the year. I had all kinds of plans to make cleaning a consistent part of my daily routine, but somehow, it never really stuck. What usually ends up happening is doing one big job in one day and letting it slide until the house becomes dirty again and I have to do another major cleaning. This time was no different.

Today, I was able to clean the bathtubs (grueling), organize my cleaning materials, do three loads of laundry (plus folding), sweep the floor, wipe the furniture, organize my clothes, clean the bathroom (master bedroom only), and replace our bedsheets with new ones. We went to bed feeling refreshed and clean, especially me. It was a whole day’s work that lasted until 2 a.m. It was worth it. Now to think of a way to make it part of my regular routine …

From Beverly Hills to Anaheim

January 22nd, 2016

Without even thinking twice, we ventured into Santa Monica today as a family and spend virtually the whole day there. We were there to run an errand — pick up a check and drop off another, as well as to check out an apartment. We made it a family trip.

We drove past Hollywood to Beverly Hills, driving past Rodeo Drive into Beverly Drive. The parking was impossible! There was even this black corvette double-parked hoping to find a spot. Fortunately for us, as we were waiting right in front of a driveway, a parked car behind us pulled away, and we swooped right in — and there was even 30 minutes left on the meter! Moreover, it was also right in the middle of shops and restaurants. We decided to stay and have lunch at a Mexican grill nearby. Afterwards, we had a cheese dessert at this Cheese Store. Yum!

It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get home. I don’t think we even tried to beat traffic. Just went with the flow. As we hit Anaheim, we decided to go to the Chinese Islamic restaurant to have their lamb soup and bread. The cozy atmosphere and rich food warmed the soul.

45

January 21st, 2016

I know it’s supposed to be a special day but I had to make an effort to do something special for myself. I decided to explore some freebies that I could get in the area for someone celebrating a birthday. My husband promised to celebrate by having breakfast, lunch, and dinner with me. It helped that his workload was light this week.

We started with Denny’s free grand slam breakfast. Not only was it a good deal, it was a great way to start the day. We had a late breakfast and decided to make it a brunch. Besides, it was so filling that by the time we were done, I didn’t want to do or eat anything, mostly just relaxed at home. I had wanted to take advantage of doughnuts, frozen yogurt, ice cream, pretzel, mocha drink, bagel, etc. My stomach can only take so much for one day.

One of the deals for dinner I definitely took was the BOGO for Black Angus. I really enjoyed the prime rib! We also ordered rib eye steak and shared it. Needless to say, after having a late brunch, this dinner celebration hit the spot! This is me looking happy and content on my 45th birthday!

We even got a pizookie birthday cake. Our server Dawn gave it to us free of charge. She was personable and even asked us to visit her again when the baby is born. Everything about tonight was perfect, even though we were so full it hurt. While my son’s eyes bulged at the dessert he was about to partake, I was just happy that I got to have it! I preferred this than regular cake, anyway! We had a little family celebration. This is one of my favorite pictures and set it as my wallpaper for all devices.
